TL;DR: I have a new series of fine art photography called “Nox Aurumque.” One of the photos made it into a prestigious art gallery in NYC. And I’m selling prints on my site now!
Hello everyone!
It’s been a minute since I last sent one of these newsletters out. This Spring has been fairly slow, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy creating. And I have some fun announcements coming soon, the biggest of which is coming this next Tuesday! But today, I want to share some of my new work in the realm of fine art photography.
Nox Aurumque
While work & travel has been slower than normal, I decided to shake things up & experiment with a unique approach to landscape photography using my Sony A7III camera & the light on my drone. And I’m excited to introduce a new series of visuals that is the result of this creative experimentation!
“Nox Aurumque” (naaks au'roomkwe, Latin for “Night and Gold”) is a series that explores light in the darkness. The name was inspired by a piece of choral music composed by Eric Whitacre with the same title. “Genesis” is the first photo in this series.
The 2nd piece is titled “Gladdening Light”.
And the third piece is named “Spirit Rising”.
All three images are long exposure photographs of a unique, mossy landscape illuminated by the light on my drone with a starry night as the backdrop. These photos are not composites created in Photoshop, and they certainly weren’t made using AI. 😉 They are simply photographs of a moment lasting 1-2 seconds while flying my drone in the darkness over a very special place.
Tucked away deep in the Columbia River Gorge, this mossy place is of both archeological and spiritual significance, as it was a sacred site used by ancient Indigenous peoples for vision quests; the exact location is hidden for its own protection. My hope is that this image of light shining in the darkness evokes a sense of mystery and wonder in the viewer.
Art Gallery in NYC
“Genesis” was recently selected by The Salmagundi Club for their 46th Annual Open Photography exhibit, a juried art show in NYC during the month of June! Founded in 1871, Salmagundi is one of the oldest art clubs in America. Located in Greenwich Village, its membership has included famous historical figures, such as Norman Rockwell & Winston Churchill.
If you’re in New York this month, I would love it if you stopped by Salmagundi to see the exhibit, which runs until June 28th. And if you do, please send me a photo! =)
And to top it all off, Salmagundi chose my photo as the cover art for the exhibit’s promotional graphics!
This is the first time I’ve ever submitted art for an exhibit & had one of my photos hung in a gallery. Getting into the world of fine art has been a dream of mine. In fact, not only did I get into one art show… but I got into two this month! My photo “Ascension” was selected for the “Vision: Color Photography” exhibit hosted by Black Box Gallery in Portland. And I hope this is just the beginning!
Prints Available!
I’m taking another exciting step in my art career & am launching a brand new print shop on my site!
Selling prints is another way of liberating my visual art from its digital confines and bringing these images into the real world. While my passion has typically been for video set to music (both in live settings & online), I have been more & more intrigued by photography, as it captures a single moment frozen in time. If you are interested, I would be honored to have one of these moments in nature on display in your home or place of work. My hope is that these images invite you to slow down & take in the wonder of Creation.
My print shop is small right now but will be growing in the days ahead. Today, I have six pieces ready to go, including the “Nox Aurumque” series.
Thank you so much for your time and attention while I share some of my art. And be on the lookout for a very exciting announcement coming this next Tuesday! I can hardly wait to share!!
Peace be with you,
Stephen Proctor
